What does starting therapy feel like?

The first step is a brief 15-minute free phone consultation where we discuss the reason for seeking therapy, goals you wish to accomplish and if this practice is a good fit for your needs in therapy. From there, we create a focused plan for moving forward by scheduling intake session followed by weekly/biweekly therapy sessions (based on identified problem).

Do you offer online / virtual therapy?

Yes. Nurture Hope Counseling offers online Telehealth sessions through a secure and HIPPA compliant video platform. Clients often appreciate the feasibility, flexibility and consistency associated with online counseling.

Is virtual therapy effective?

Research shows that video-based therapy is as effective as in-person sessions for many issues. It also removes barriers like travel, scheduling stress, and geographic limitations. However, there are certain conditions that are more indicative of in-person therapy. Please reach out to inquire if telehealth counseling is the best option for your concerns.

What platform do you use?

All sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant, secure video platform.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes, at Nurture Hope Counseling confidentiality is taken very seriously. Feeling safe and respected is essential for meaningful and effective therapy. The sessions are confidential and will information will not be shared unless you have a release of information signed for relevant individuals/entity. However, in rare cases counselors are legally required to share information with concerned authorities if you are at risk of harm to yourself or others, i.e. suicide or homicidal threat.

How should I prepare for my first session?

Find a private, quiet space, and ensure a stable internet connection. You don’t need to prepare anything else other than show up for your appointment. Because our practice is focused in the state of New Jersey, our clients must reside and log in for their therapy sessions from within the state.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, Nurture Hope Counseling accepts Aetna, out-of-network (OON) and private pay. Superbills are available for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider. We also offer select sliding scale slots in our practice.

Do I need to be in therapy for ever?

No. You will not be in therapy forever. The length depends on the nature of problem you need help with.

How frequently will I have sessions?

Generally, clients schedule sessions weekly or biweekly based on their need for addressing the issues for counseling. Clients who make progress can schedule sessions once a month if they are making progress.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellation requires at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations of less than 48 hours will be chard 50% of session fee. Less than 24 hours cancellation will be charged a full fee.
